The Rev. Dr. Cheryl Wade served American Baptist Churches for most of her ministry. Following a stint as a teacher while working on her M.Div. at Garrett Evangelical Seminary in Chicago, she held a position as a chaplain in a high school before accepting a position at North Shore Baptist in Chicago, her ordaining church. When the family moved to New York, she began her ministry with the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board of American Baptist Churches, and was there for 10 years while working on her M.BA and ultimately serving as Treasurer of the benefit board. In 1993 she and her family moved to Philadelphia where she began her ministry as Associate General Secretary and Treasurer for ABCUSA, a position she held for 13 years. She also served as the denomination’s ecumenical officer, and Vice President for Finance at the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA. She represented ABCUSA at the Baptist World Alliance, and was a member of the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches from Harare to Porto Alegre. She served as Director for Philanthropy for the Kendal Corporation, a Quaker-based of continuing care retirement community. Now retired, she continues her work as an associate minister at Second Baptist when she and her husband are not in Virginia where their retirement home is located.
